The tutu’s evolution from a lengthy skirt to a “cloud of gas”

A ballett tutu is unmistakably associated with a ballerina in the minds of most people. This stage outfit has evolved into an essential component of classical ballet. This, however, was not always the case. Before it was fully created, the modern image of a ballerina went through many transformations and travelled a long distance.

Many people are shocked to learn that until the second half of the nineteenth century, ballerinas danced on stage in magnificent gowns that differed little from those worn by the audience. Ballett tutu was a corset-style dress, a little shorter than normal and fairly thick. Ballerinas usually danced in high shoes. The new fashion for antiquity aided the share of ballerinas marginally. By the way, legendary storylines, such as Cupid and Psyche, began to be exploited in ballet.

Ladies started wearing light, transparent gowns with a high waist. They were even slightly saturated to improve the fit of the cloth. Under the dresses, tights were worn, and sandals were worn on the feet. Since the early twentieth century, when the tutu took on its current shape and style, individuals have been experimenting with it.

Ballett tutu are made of tulle, a light transparent fabric. Designers begin with a drawing. Of course, the qualities of each ballerina’s physique are taken into account, therefore the drawing of the garment for each dancer is unique.

Tutus are stitched individually for ballet performance rehearsals. They are less difficult to put on and take off than those worn by ballerinas on stage.
